Marketing/PR Coordinator (Americorps* VISTA)

This is an excellent opportunity for someone to gain experience working in a nonprofit organization, whether you are making a career transition or new to the workforce.
Hours: Full-time
This position starts in November 2008 and lasts for one year
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop methods to publicize AFC Mentoring.
• Bring consistency to all AFC print materials, such as newsletters, flyers, etc, and help develop a style guide for AFC. Help staff, board members, volunteers, and others with consistency in their oral and written messages.
• Create communications and information packages, and keep materials updated.
• Develop marketing materials, including brochures, flyers, newsletters, business cards, etc.
• Initiate regular communication to AFC constituents by e-mail and occasionally by direct mail.
• Coordinate updates of AFC website.
• Manage Marketing volunteers.
• Assist Executive Director in preparing speeches and Powerpoint presentations.
• Serve as primary contact person for media.
• Lead any urgent PR efforts, and send out all press releases and other publicity materials.
• Assist with mentor recruitment.
• Represent AFC Mentoring in community and organizational meetings.
• Develop and deliver presentations to audiences to build awareness of AFC Mentoring and establish referral partnerships.
• Develop recruitment materials to target diverse constituencies.
• Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience
College degree or equivalent work experience.
Experience working with youth, in a nonprofit organization, and/or in community services preferred but not required.
Experience with adoption or foster care helpful but not required.
Marketing or communications experience very helpful.
Skills/Knowledge
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Ability to conduct research to identify appropriate organizations for networking.
Ability to build relationships.
Good oral and written communication skills and ability to make public presentations.
Good computer skills. Website experience and knowledge of Dream Weaver, Powerpoint and InDesign helpful.
Excellent project management skills.
Good editing skills.
Self-directed.
Team-oriented and collaborative.
Ability to work with diverse populations.
Knowledge of Spanish helpful but not required.
Positive attitude and sense of humor.
Benefits
For a year commitment to full-time work VISTAs receive:
• A $11,388 taxable living allowance and health benefits (paid by AmeriCorps*.
• A $300/month housing stipend.
• A $4,725 educational award or $1,200 post-service stipend.
