Hours: Full time
The Unitarian Universalist Urban Ministry (UUUM) is currently considering candidates for the position of Interim Director of its Roxbury Youth Program. The Interim Director will provide leadership for the program’s three major components (described below), and will help Agency leadership develop a plan for its future management. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with strong leadership skills to support the academic and social development of Boston Public School students, to direct a diverse team of staff and volunteers, and to build a solid foundation for the program’s growth during a period of transition.
The Roxbury Youth Program consists of (a) after-school and evening programs for middle and high school students offering a combination of academic tutoring, social and citizenship development opportunities, and enrichment activities; (b) a weekend program for elementary and middle school aged youth, offering enrichment opportunities and building social skills; and (c) summer programming for high school aged youth (employment and leadership training) and middle school aged youth (camp placements). The mission of the Roxbury Youth Program is to provide a safe and supportive environment that encourages youth to develop the academic, social, and leadership skills needed to thrive in a diverse and challenging world, and that offers volunteers opportunities for transformation in helping youth to realize their potential.
The Unitarian Universalist Urban Ministry is one of the oldest social justice organizations in the country, with an extensive volunteer program and the support of an alliance of over 45 Unitarian Universalist congregations in greater Boston. The Roxbury Youth Program, centered on the campus of the First Church in Roxbury, is one of a diverse spectrum of outreach programs serving Boston families. The Director will participate in the senior staff leadership of the organization.
