Details

Job Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Promote Safe Bicycling
-Assist in leading bike safety lessons for Bikes Not Bombs’ youth program participants*
-Role model Bikes Not Bombs’ (BNB) bike safety policies, including helmet rules and all cycling laws
-Assist in leading bike rides ensuring that participants are safe and having fun
-Assist in leading bike safety rodeo’s for group’s BNB collaborates with

2. Promote a positive mechanics and cycling learning environment
-Assist in leading basic mechanics lessons for BNB program participants
-Take advantage of regular evaluation periods to think critically by offering constructive feedback about programs or your own performance to your co-workers and program coordinators/director
-Help manage behaviors that are contrary to a positive learning environment
-Assist in maintaining BNB youth program’s equipment and space
-Participate in end of day evaluations at the end of each day of programming, and occasional staff meetings

3. Promote BNBs’ Mission
-Learn and teach about BNBs’ mission of environmental stewardship and social justice
-Promote cycling as a practical transportation alternative to the car in the Boston area
-Facilitate icebreakers and activities focused on community building, environmental stewardship, and social justice
-Participate in BNB outreach and fundraising events, including our annual Bike-A-Thon

Desired Skills and Qualifications:
• Boston resident age 13-18 years old
• Self motivated
• Time Management skills
• Willingness to resolve conflicts peacefully
• Ability to work with people of all age groups, ethnicities, and experiences, especially young people ages 10-18
• Willing to be part of a team that gives and receives constructive feedback
• Willing to work with young people ages 10-18 years old
• Willing to get your hands dirty while doing bike mechanics
• Comfort riding a bike on bike paths and streets
• Experience with youth and/or bike riding
• Bike Safety & Mechanics Training experience with BNB preferred
