After School Program Coordinator

A position at Unitarian Universalist Urban Ministry

This position will help to lead the Roxbury Youth Programs; a non-sectarian program serving middle and high school students, community groups and public and private agencies in offering after school and evening enrichment; support services, mentoring, tutoring, and community service learning.

The Unitarian Universalist Urban Ministry is a social justice ministry dedicated to the pursuit of justice in our urban communities and the recognition that we are all part of one human family, urban and suburban. One of the oldest faith-based social justice organizations in the country, the UU Urban Ministry is supported by an alliance of over 45 Unitarian Universalist congregations in greater Boston. With an extensive volunteer program, our outreach activities seek to bridge the divides of race, class, and ethnicity among our church communities and inner-city families.

We are seeking to hire an After School Program Coordinator with a back ground in youth development, program management and exceptional interpersonal skills. This is a significant leadership position involving youth program management, supervision, and volunteer coordination. This position will be responsible for helping to leading the Roxbury Youth Programs; a non-sectarian program that serves middle and high school students, community groups and public and private agencies in offering after school and evenings enrichment; support services, mentoring, tutoring, and community service learning. We engage children in a broad array of after school activities to enhance life-skills and to address the whole child, through multi-level interventions that are practical, fun, and that connect children to their community. Anchored by (Academics, Technology, Life skills, Arts, and Sports) we work to give youth the social and academic supports they need to make to achieve academic/ social empowerment. Our program runs year round during the school year and summer and serves children ages 11-17 years.

Qualifications:

· 2-3 years relevant experience working in the youth development field

· A Bachelors degree (preferably in education, social services, or adolescent

Development).

· Strong commitment to education and social development

· Experience in working with youth(s) in low income communities of color

· Experience in community organizing and youth organizing

· Experience in delivering trainings and curriculum development

· Must be able to exercise patience and have a good sense of humor

· Must be a very creative thinker

· Must be a good listener and facilitator

· Must have be organized and have strong administrative skills

· Must be computer savvy (familiar with Word, Excel, Internet, and database)

· Must be a team player, self-starter, quick learner, and ability to work in fast-paced environment

General Accountabilities

* Responsible for engaging students, parents and community residents in the RYP year round program activities, such as summer employment program, coordinating recruitment outreach efforts, scheduling workshops/ training and hosting program events as necessary

* Responsible for developing, maintaining and expanding informal relationships with families as well as representatives from schools, business, churches and other organizations in the Roxbury Youth program target neighborhoods.

* Responsible for maintenance of a database including: data collection, monthly reports, student attendance, services provided, families served, and program resources; academic supplies, food supplies etc

* Responsible for managing existing and new initiatives and projects that further strengthens the RYP program activities and curriculum (Young Author’s project-creative writing/ media literacy, Creative Art Instructions-Mass Art, Life skills /social justice workshops, Efficacy-Character Development Curriculum)

* Responsible for working with the Director Of Youth Program in fundraising for Roxbury Youth Programs all other duties as assigned by the Director of Youth Programs/ Building Manager.

Anticipated start date: early-September. This is a Full Time position with benefits. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications, ranging from $25, 00- $30,000.
